Judge Profiles

Guimin Guan

One of China’s most celebrated tenors of recent decades, Guimin Guan was among the first artists to be named a “National First-Class Performer” by China’s Ministry of Culture, and later honored by the Foreign Ministry an “Outstanding Professional and Contributor.” Mr. Guan has recorded soundtracks for over 50 movies and television shows, and is the recipient of numerous accolades. He has served as a judge for many national-level vocal competitions in China, and has been the Chairman of the Judging Committee of NTD’s International Vocal Competition since the inception of the competition. Mr. Guan is also an associate company manager of Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company.

Maitland Peters

Maitland Peters is currently in his twentieth year as Chairman of the Voice Department at Manhattan School of Music and his twenty-second year on the faculty. In 2009 he was awarded Manhattan School of Music’s Presidential Award for excellence in teaching and service to Manhattan School of Music. As one of New York City’s most prominent and sought-after voice teachers, Maitland Peters maintains a studio of well over 100 professionals, while directing one of the largest and most prestigious faculties of voice in the world. His students sing on the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the opera companies of Berlin, Munich, Paris and Glyndebourne, in leading opera companies across the United States and Europe as well as the Broadway stage.

Katherine Olsen

Katherine Olsen is one of the most famous and sought-after opera coach/accompanists in the world today. Throughout her professional career she has been involved with every aspect of singer development and career counseling. With the creation of Encompass Arts, Ms. Olsen embarks upon the logical next step in her career path. As a pianist she has collaborated with such artists as: Ben Heppner, Harolyn Blackwell, Renata Scotto, and Riccardo Caruso (great- grandson of Enrico Caruso). Her articles on the subject of accompanying have been published by: Keyboard Magazine, Classical Singer Magazine and The Christian Science Monitor.
