Mission

The New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD Television) “International Vocal Competition” is one in a series of international cultural and arts events sponsored by NTD Television. The aim of this competition is to promote traditional vocal arts of pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty, and provide a world-class arena for all vocalists to showcase their talents.

Organizer

The Competition will be hosted by NTD Television.  The Competition proceedings will be broadcasted around the globe via NTD Television networks.

Panel of Judges

The panel of judges will be composed of experienced professional singers from around the world.

Competition Location and Dates

• Preliminaries:October 19th, 2012.  New York, USA (details will be posted on the competition website).
• Semi-Finals: October 20th, 2012.  New York, USA (details will be posted on the competition website).
• Finals, Award Ceremony, and “NTD Television International Vocal Competition Concert”: October 21st, 2012.

Qualifications to Enter the Competition

1. All professional singers, including vocal instructors, singers, and students, as well as professional-level enthusiasts, may register and participate.
2. To qualify for the Competition: After the Panel of Judges has reviewed all of the materials from the applicants, a formal “NTD Television International Vocal Competition Invitation” will be sent to those who meet the criteria. The contestants may use this invitation to apply for visas and report to the competition.

Content of the Competition

1. Bel Canto only.
2. Types of vocal works include Chinese classic songs, arias and artistic songs.
3. The competition will consist of three rounds: Preliminaries, Semi-Finals, and Finals.
4. For the Preliminary round, contestants are required to perform one self-chosen song. For the Semi-Finals and Finals, contestants are required to perform two self-chosen songs or portions. At least one Chinese-language song is required in the Final round.

   All Chinese-language songs must be chosen from the following list (please check Appendix for all lyrics):

5. The Organization Committee shall provide piano accompaniment for contestants. Contestants may also bring their own pianist(s).
6. Contestants are required to send all their vocal scores, lyrics and accompaniment music scores to the Organization Committee at least one month before the Preliminaries.

3. Personal Information:
   • The applicant should fill out and submit the International Vocal Competition Registration Form as well as the Resume Form; both of which can be downloaded from the Competition’s Website. All those under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian signing the Registration Form.
   • Each applicant must provide two 1" × 1" color photos (digital photos preferred) and a copy of their valid ID.
   • The applicant should send in the latest recordings of his/her recital (5 minutes minimum) in the format of high quality cassette, audio CD, VCD or DVD (preferably in NTSC format). The VCD or DVD must not be enhanced or edited. The information of the applicant should be clearly marked on the cover of cassette or disk. In addition, no subtitles or logos that reveal any information about the applicant may appear within the image or else it will be considered an act of forfeiture. If the applicant has difficulty in fulfilling this request, please inform the Competition’s Organization Committee.
   • The above application materials should be sent to the Competition’s Organization Committee by registered mail. All application materials shall not be returned.
4. Registration Fee^{[ #1]}:
   • US$180 (including one admission for the “International Vocal Concert” in New York).
   • Method of payment: major credit cards, cash, traveler's checks, or money orders.
   • Please make your check payable to New Tang Dynasty Television.
5. Registered express mail charges: for applicant who needs a United States visa, please indicate so on the Registration Form, and pay an additional US$35 fee for the registered express mail for the visa materials.
6. All contestants who enter U.S.A. with the visa for this Competition should hold full legal responsibilities themselves if they did not show up at the Competition.

Note [1]: Under normal circumstances, applicant’s registration becomes valid only after he or she has paid the registration fee. For applicants who cannot prepay the registration fee due to special difficulties, they are required to submit a formal written request to delay the payment of registration fee until time of competition. However, there will be a US$20 surcharge in such case.

Placement Awards

Gold award: US$10,000; Silver award: US$3,000; Bronze award: US$1,000.

• Male Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze;
• Female Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze;
• Honorable Mention Awards will also be presented to outstanding contestants.
• Gold Award winners will be invited to perform at the "NTD Television International Vocal Competition Concert" in New York.

Accommodation and Transportation

1. The Competition’s Organization Committee will recommend hotels in New York City.
2. Contestants and their entourage shall pay for their own accommodation and transportation.

Miscellaneous

1. All contestants shall comply with the Rules and Regulation, as well as all the arrangements of the Competition's Organization Committee. The committee has the right to revoke violators' eligibility and the prizes awarded.
2. Contestants will take full responsibility to any copyright issues related to the music they choose for the competition.
3. All winners must personally attend the award ceremony to accept the prize. Cash will not be awarded in lieu of that prize. The winners absent will automatically give up the prize.
4. New Tang Dynasty Television is entitled to all copyrights of audio and video products made during the Competition.
