Mission

The New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) “Chinese International Vocal Competition” is one in a series of international cultural and arts events sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV). The aim of this competition is to foster cultural exchange and promote traditional vocal arts of pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty. The competition will comprise the following types of vocal works: Chinese traditional, folk and classic songs; theme songs from TV drama and movies; arias and artistic songs.

Organizer

The Competition will be hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV). NTDTV satellite television and the NTDTV website will broadcast the Competition proceedings around the globe.

Panel of Judges

The panel of judges will be composed of experienced professional singers and will be given full authority to engage in the evaluation tasks of the Competition. The decisions from the panel in all rounds of the competition are final.

Content of the Competition
1. The Competition will be divided into two categories: Bel Canto and Folk Singing (Popular singing is excluded).
2. Types of vocal works include Chinese traditional, folk and classic songs; theme songs from TV drama and movies; arias and artistic songs.
3. Contestants’ musical pieces shall not glorify the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), nor shall they contain any CCP-related culture.
4. The competition will consist of three rounds: Preliminaries, Semi-Finals, and Finals.
5. For the Preliminary round, contestants are required to perform one self-chosen song. For the Semi-Finals and Finals, contestants are required to perform two self-chosen songs (or portions) with a total time of no more than eight minutes. The Semi-Final and Final items must not be identical. At least one Chinese-language song each is required in the Semi-Final and Final rounds.
6. The Organization Committee shall provide piano accompaniment for contestants. Contestants may bring their own pianist(s) or prepare their own accompaniment music (at least two music CDs are required), in which case contestants are responsible for all related expenses.
7. Contestants are required to send all their vocal scores, lyrics and accompaniment music scores to the Organization Committee at least one month before the Preliminaries.
Qualifications to Enter the Competition

1. All professional singers, including vocal instructors, singers, and students from professional vocal schools, performance troupes, professional arts academies, as well as professional-level enthusiasts, may register and participate.

2. Only Chinese or Chinese descendents are accepted in this competition.

3. To qualify for the Competition: After the Panel of Judges has reviewed all of the materials from the applicants, a formal “NTDTV Chinese International Vocal Competition Invitation” will be sent to those who meet the criteria. The contestants may use this invitation to apply for visas and report to the competition.

3. Personal Information:

. The applicant should fill out and submit the Chinese International Vocal Competition Registration Form as well as the Resume Form; both of which can be downloaded from the Competition’s Website. All those under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian sign the Registration Form.

. Each applicant must provide two 1 inch x1 inch color photos (digital photos preferred) and a copy of their valid ID.

. The applicant should send in the latest recordings of his/her recital (10 minutes minimum) in the format of high quality cassette, audio CD, VCD or DVD (preferably in NTSC format). The VCD or DVD must not be enhanced or edited. The information of the applicant should be clearly marked on the cover of cassette or disk. In addition, no subtitles or logos that reveal any information about the applicant may appear within the image or else it will be considered an act of forfeiture. If the applicant has difficulty in fulfilling this request, please inform the Competition’s Organization Committee.

Competition Dates

•Preliminaries in Taiwan will be held July 5th through 6th, 2008.

•Competitions in USA will be held August 8th through 10th, 2008 according to the following schedule:
Wednesday, August 6th: Contestant Registration & Orientation
Thursday, August 7th: Rehearsal

Friday, August 8th: Preliminaries
Saturday, August 9th: Semi-finals
Sunday, August 10th: Finals (including Award Ceremony)

Placement Awards


Gold award: US$10,000; Silver award: US$3,000; Bronze award: US$1,000.

• Folk Singing:

 o Male Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze;

 o Female Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze.

•Bel Canto:

 o Male Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze;

 o Female Division: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze.

• Honorable Mention Awards will also be presented to outstanding contestants.

Accommodation and Transportation

1. The Competition’s Organization Committee will recommend hotels in New York City for contestants and those accompanying them.

2. Contestants and their entourage shall pay for their own accommodation and transportation.

Miscellaneous

1. Upon registration, contestants acknowledge the validity of the Rules and Regulations for the Competition.

2. Contestants must follow the arrangements by the Competition’s Organization Committee. The Committee has the right to revoke violators’ eligibilities and the prizes awarded.

3. New Tang Dynasty Television is entitled to all copyrights of audio and video products made during the Competition.

4. The Competition’s Organization Committee shall have the ultimate authority to interpret the Rules and Regulations for the Competition and have the right to make any changes to them as necessary.
